Finger Linkin’ Good - 2/21/08

So I bet everyone’s been wandering why Sentences hasn’t been updated. And then I know you’re scratching your head saying, “Damn, this site is dieing already?” Well fear not my fellow warriors of the digital millennium. We’re still very alive, and kicking. Anthony has been working on a few articles which he will be releasing shortly. Me on the other hand, I’m working on some other, bigger things.

Sentences will be launching a new design soon. It’s based off of Quommunication’s Wordpress Theme and will be implemented into Sentences soon enough. If you’re a night bird like me, you may have done some snooping and seen the theme up late at night while I do fixes and changes and customize the theme so it feels like home. Furthermore, we’ll be implementing a real forum system soon (after the redesign). Finally, everything is finally coming together.

So in the mean time, here’s some other articles to hold you down. I’m sorry to keep you all short on updates, and I really do as if I’m cheating you all out of an experience, but keep in mind that we’re working on things, and we aren’t just sitting dormant.

Finger Linkin’ Good 2/21/08:

Anyways, that’s it for now. Keep checking back to see the new site and forum launching. It should be in a couple of days (pending if I can find the right person to do it. Which reminds me, if you’re interested in customizing the News theme from Quocommunication, please contact me).

Regards,
Bryan

  • I found your site on google blog search and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. Just added your RSS feed to my feed reader. Look forward to reading more from you.

  • I’ve been a Basecamp user for a long time no and if I’m being honest with myself, the only reason I haven’t moved is because I was comfortable.

Thanks for these awesome resources Bryan!

  • I’ve never really used a project management application to date. I’ve always relied on using my scrap book everywhere I go and just relied on keeping contact with all my clients.
I think it’s about time I move into something more manageable, this scrapbook is getting really annoying!

    Thanks for another sweet post!

I actually found 5pm very refreshing. I like how everything is compressed on one screen. And I didn’t have any difficulties getting to use it - it reminds me of a standard file explorer navigation. And I like the timeline, just want it to have more functions.

For your clients - you may want them to check the short video introductions from 5pm website. Those may help. Just an idea.

P.S. Basecamp doesn’t get updated much anymore. Move on.

  • @ Sue: Welcome to Sentences! Glad you like the content on the site, and glad to hear that you’ve subscribed. I look forward to seeing you around the site!

@ Anthony: I must agree - I’m just so used to Basecamp that I continue to use it. After all, it was one of the first project management applications to really take off.

@ Mike: I used a notebook when I had started as well. As well as strictly using email and instant messenger. Then eventually it got to the point where I had to manage multiple projects and I quickly grew out of my notebook. I’m happy using web applications now. I hope you decide to do the same.

@ Roscoe: 5 PM is extremely refreshing, I most definitely agree with you! The only thing I don’t really like about it though is that to access somethings, I have to click different tabs. I really like how Basecamp has the time line displayed versus 5PM’s remaining on a different tab. But you bring up a great point about Basecamp no longer being updated … and that’s a huge issue that could potentially affect my decision to stay with them or not.

  • Thanks for the write-up on ActionThis, and we’ll take your comments on board.

One thing I’d like to point out: You can do everything in the web application that you can using Microsoft Outlook, including create and manage tasks, access reports, upload documents and work with other users.

It’s also important to note that using the core website is free, but to use the additional clients (e.g. for Outlook and Excel) it will cost from $10 per month.

We’re regularly adding new features, so keep an eye out for updates - see http://www.actionthis.com for more information.

  • Only started really using BaseCamp properly since I started my new job, we are now looking at open source systems that we can install on our own servers and use to manage projects.

There are some good ones out there, maybe a good topic for another post like this one day?

    Great post as usual.

    Andy

  • @ Andy: Hey there buddy. One of the applications that I posted, FreelancePanel is open source and allows you to install it on your servers. Maybe that should be an application that you can look into.

  • Great post Bryan, very useful resources. Will check some of these out and hopefully find one I like!

  • Looks like the masses liked this one Bryan. Keep up the great work!

  • Hey Bryan,
Thank you for the DeskAway mention. We have taken your comments in consideration.

BTW, sorry you didn’t like the logo or the graphical experience. As long the app is easy to use with less-clutter, our ‘paying’ clients are happy :-)
